on the other side grey stick - for helping the ink dissolve... pressing on the sold ink... in water.. eh ? right ?

and the brushes up there.. well they are of different softnesses and yeah.. by the way.. what are they made of ?? there are three different types of hair .. white - ??? , black - ???? and brown - ?????

WHOAH. I have the EXACT same kit. My dad got it for me like, 8 years ago in China when he went for business. Wow. I want to know too! I think it's some kind of caligraphy thing though...
Edit: This is a description for it... 2 goat hair brushes, 2 sable hair brushes, black ink stick, carved grinding stone, red seal ink in a covered ceramic container, ceramic brush rest, water bowl, soapstone.

The ink is called 'sumi'. It's for Chinese or Japanese calligraphy. I don't know what the red stuff is other than being there to hold everything else firm. You can paint or write with the brushes, but I don't have enough experience with them to tell you what each is for.
