Why does are hair go grey?

It loses pigmentation.

Stress, especially really bad stress, can cause a loss of pigment. Sometimes, pigment returns after the cause of the stress is resolved. The most common cause is aging. Over time the cells that produce hair color simply stop producing.

Why does are hair go grey?

It doesn't actualy go grey - it goes white as the ability to produce pigmentation declines with age (or trauma). The resulting mix with coloured hair produces the grey. It is genticaly linked - which is why there is so much variation as to whether you will go grey or not.

Why does are hair go grey?

Sometimes there is a genetic predisposition to premature greying, then there is old age, and then there are the traumas that can shock the system, e.g. bereavement, illness, etc. The hair is deprived of melanin (2 types eumelanin and pheomelanin), a pigment, and loses its colour.
