What makes a person look wealthy and classy?

I'm such a frumpy dork. I am 32, married mother of one. I teach a room full of 12-24 months toddlers M-F and am housewife/mom during all my moments "off duty". So, I'm wondering...is it possible for me to change the way I look and and make it believable? I normally wear a t-shirt + knee length shorts + sneakers to school. At home I'm still wearing the knee length shorts + flip flops and a nicer top. I probably change 40-60 diapers a day, then come home and clean house/cook/lounge. What is most important when you see someone who has a classy trendy look? Shoes, hair or clothing? I'm a motherly size 8-10 right now. Where should I shop, what name brands are cool for my age group what sort of shoes should I be wearing? I have mid-back length hair, dark brown w/ small amount of greys(especially on top)...should I cut it, highlight it? I just want to be accepted and respected. Can you help?

What makes a person look wealthy and classy?

look at some fashion magazines and see what kind of look you prefer and then look at the stores they listed in the magazine. for now, here are some stores: cleo, reitmans, laura, fashion max, smart set

cover the greys in your hair, and get it layered, wear more professional clothing...it doesn't matter the name brand, you can buy it anywhere

for your age group defitley try J.Crew, Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor LOFT, and Banana Republic, you can't go wrong with any of these store and don't get over whelmed by the priced either you can find GREAT deals on the sale racks. Also i would order InStyle magazine they have great outfit ideas in there for every age group i would also highly reccomend watching What Not To Wear on TLC they also have great ideas for everyone!

a look you might want to try is the whole grace kelly, safari look. That would involve a sleek pony tail or chignon (which is nice cause then you wouldn't have to worry about cutting your hair every few weeks, just keep a nice trim. Then you would wear simple pearls in your ear, a simple watch or bracelet, khakis- aim for slightly higher end ones that fit nicely, don't wrinkle. make sure to have the store tailor the pants- macys and other places do this for a small charge. then wear a simple cotton, button down shirt- again, this is easy to wash. white would be most classic, but as you're a mother and likely to get a little messy try colors that suit your skin tone.

the current fashion is ballet slippers or other flats, which is great. you can keep this look up to date by changing a few accessories, adding belts when the fashion calls for it, or changing up the shoes, etc.

and most of all, confidence!

i will find a pic as soon as i'm able.

good luck.

The over-all look is the importance. You don't want to get a nice outfit and not do your hair. The outfit compliments the hair, the shoes compliment the outfit. It's a group effort.

With your job, you want to be comfortable in what you're wearing. I sugguest JC Penny's clothing. You can buy a nice, affordable and comfortable suit (for the professional, but not over-done look), and even find nice classy tops and skirts/bottoms as well for more casual days or times.

Long layers would really compliment your lengthy hair. Don't highlight. Instead go to wal-mart and get some 'loreal multi-color' dye, which generally contains three simular shades that will blend together and look natural. Pick a shade close to your own true color to look more sophisticated.

When Buying shoes just remember two things: color and comfort. Generally, black, white, and brown match everything. You want something you can wear everyday, all day. Other than those two things, just have fun trying on different shoes before you decide on what looks and feels you.

I don't know why your goal is to look wealthy and classy as if you are trying to impress someone but, I am sure you are not a "frumpy dork". If you are doing it to feel better about yourself then great. You are a busy young mother who puts everyone else first. As a single mother of twins, I can tell you that "making time for yourself" is a challenge, but well worth it. If you feel good and are happy you will be a better mom, wife, and employee.

First suggestion is definitely get rid of the gray. If you only have a few grays try a wash out type color like Natural Instincts. Its gentle on hair and gradually washes out over 28 shampoo's. It will hide those first few grays and give your hair a great shine and color. My hair is dark brown and I like the roasted chestnut. It gives a little red highlight.

Instead of wearing t-shirts go for something with a little more style. You probably don't want anything too expensive for work but a little more stylized will look more "professional". Instead of a plain tee what about something with a U or V neck with some little detail? How about a polo type shirt? I'm thinking anything with a little more shape and style. What kind of shorts are you wearing? If they are just stretch type shorts go for something a little more tailored. Stick with basic colors like black, brown, and khaki, navy. You will get more mileage out of them and they will hold up better in your work.

Do you fix your hair and makeup before work or just go out? If not, fix your hair some. Even a smooth pony tail works. Apply a little make up...mascara, blush, lipgloss. A little goes a long way for daytime and working with toddlers. Wear a small pair of stud earrings. All of these little things will give a more finished appearance.

There are also a lot of shoe options other than traditional sneakers that are comfortable that would add some style.

At home in the evening kick it up a notch if you are doing something. If not, what you wear to work would be fine.

Maybe take a look at some of the newspaper insert ads for Penneys, Kohls, Macys etc. Look what the 30 something models are wearing for casual summer looks. You don't have to shop those stores, but get looks from them to duplicate.

Good luck and have fun.

P.S.-size 8-10 is nothing to be ashamed of.

What makes a person look wealthy and classy?

I remember an article from Allure a couple of years ago, some of those tips will help here.

Stick with neutrals. For work, khaki pants or bermuda shorts, good fitted t shirts (v neck) in solid colors, flat ballerina type shoes with gel insoles for more comfort. Sketchers has some very cute mary jane style sneaker flats that are very comfortable and stylish. Keep jewelry to a minimum. Buy some good (14k) gold faux diamond stud earrings (I have different shapes) in small carat weights, these are believable and classy. For home or going out, wear more dresses and use self tanning lotion for a glowing complexion, the man in your life will love this.

Lose the flip flops unless you are going to the beach.

Cut your hair but keep the length, cover your grays and get lots of layers. Buy some colorful scarfs to tie your hair up while at work. Remember, wealthy women are reserved and wear the classics, and have money to spend on lavish spa treatments. You can do it on your own though with a small investment of your time.

You want to look low, but regular maintenance, so..

Always have a manicure with a light color polish, pedicure with any color. Take care of your skin with at home facial products. Maintain your haircut and color. Whiten your teeth.

Invest in a few good accessories, a big day bag, nice sunglasses, etc., that will become your signature pieces.
