Question for Rabbit Breeders & Experts!?

Why did all the bunnies end up the same colour?

I took in a neglected rabbit a few weeks ago, then she gave birth, after contacting the previous owner I found out the rabbit was housed with another purebred of REW colour. Both rabbits are english angora.

My question is why did she have all black skined babies(9 of them), and none of any other shade or colour? Now they are getting a light coat of fur on them which the colour is a dark grey.

The father is a white with red eyes, and the mother has a black face with dark silver hair, roots being a slight shade lighter than tips.

Also, if any of them had babies (just out of curiosity, we don't plan to breed), would they carry the REW colour genes?

They all ended up the same color because Mom is a dominant shade and Dad is a recessive..

Mom must not carry any REW genes and Dad must not have much in the way of other colors in his gene pool..

They may still carry REW in them, but, they'd probably have to be bred with another REW to bring that out, but, I think you'd still get a very small percentage of REW.

Jennifer's answer is absolutely the correct one. The dam's color is adominant over the REW gene. Usually black is dominant over any other color.

Also REW masks colors. They usually are from a breeding of a color and a REW, so they will throw that color.

The kits will most likely be the same as the dam.

I agree with jennifer
